Initial assessment
We examine the affected skin, discuss previous treatments and check whether Swift is appropriate.
Stubborn verruca? Swift uses controlled microwave energy to stimulate an immune response against the virus that causes verrucae — without cutting or applying acid.
Treatment suitability is assessed by your podiatrist.
Verrucae are caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). Swift delivers microwave energy through a small applicator placed on the affected skin. The energy heats tissue briefly and is designed to prompt the body’s immune system to recognise and respond to the infected cells.
Unlike treatments that remove layers of skin, Swift does not usually require cutting, dressings or a prolonged recovery period. Your podiatrist will assess whether it is suitable for your verruca and medical history.
Focused microwave energy is applied directly to the verruca, with treatment tailored to the affected area.

A small applicator delivers brief pulses of microwave energy. You may feel a short, sharp heat sensation during treatment.
A course of around three sessions is commonly used, with appointments usually spaced several weeks apart. Your clinician will advise on timing.
Improvement can take time as the immune response develops. A review around 12 weeks after the course may be recommended.
Most patients can walk normally straight after treatment and do not need a dressing. Some temporary tenderness or redness is possible. Follow the individual advice given by your podiatrist.
No routine dressings are usually required
Normal day-to-day activity can usually continue
Results are gradual and cannot be guaranteed

You may feel a brief, intense heat sensation during each application. The discomfort usually stops quickly when the energy is switched off. Your podiatrist will explain what to expect.
A course of around three sessions is common, but the number needed varies. Some verrucae may not respond, and additional assessment or alternative treatment may be recommended.
Most people can walk immediately afterwards and return to normal activities. Your podiatrist will advise if you need any individual precautions.
Usually not. Swift typically does not create an open wound, although temporary tenderness can occur. Follow any specific instructions from your clinician.
