Your movement. Your goals.

From everyday walking
to your next finish line.

Run3D is for walkers and runners of different abilities. A detailed assessment can help connect your symptoms, movement and activity goals.

Understand recurring injury

Explore movement patterns that may contribute to persistent or recurring problems affecting your feet, Achilles tendons, shins, knees or hips.

Work towards your running goals

Whether you are returning to running or training for an event, measurements can help inform advice on your running mechanics and areas to work on.

Keep moving comfortably

If pain or reduced mobility affects your walking, understanding how your joints move can help guide a plan around the activities that matter to you.

The science behind your stride

Measure movement.
Reveal the detail.

Run3D uses infrared cameras to track reflective markers on your legs and shoes. The system creates a three-dimensional model of your lower limbs, measuring movement through your pelvis, hips, knees and ankles.

That includes rotations and side-to-side movement, as well as bending and straightening. Your clinician can examine patterns and asymmetries that are difficult to assess by eye.

Run3D is an Oxford University company, bringing motion-capture technology used in specialist orthopaedic settings into clinical practice.

Turn measurements into a plan

Movement data becomes more useful when it is considered alongside your symptoms, injury history and clinical findings.

A combined gait and musculoskeletal assessment adds tests of strength, flexibility, alignment and control. Together, these findings help your clinician understand how you move and which areas may need attention.

Recommendations may include targeted exercises, gait retraining, footwear advice, orthotics or referral, depending on your assessment.

Your Run3D journey

From your first step
to your next steps.

We begin with your concerns and goals. Reception will confirm the assessment options, what is included and how your results will be reviewed.

  1. Tell us your story

Discuss your symptoms, injury history, activity and what you want to achieve.

  2. Set up the markers

Your clinician positions 39 reflective markers on your legs and shoes so the cameras can track your movement.

  3. Walk or run

Once you are comfortable on the treadmill, the system captures your movement. Your clinician may assess different speeds or footwear.

  4. Test strength and mobility

For a combined gait and musculoskeletal appointment, clinical tests add information about strength, flexibility, alignment and control.

  5. Understand your results

Your clinician interprets the measurements alongside your history and explains the findings. Our team will confirm when this review takes place.

  6. Build your plan

Discuss recommendations tailored to your findings and goals, with clear advice on what to do next.

Get the most from your assessment

Bring your shoes.
Bring your goals.

Come ready to talk about the activities you enjoy and what you would like to get back to. Tell our team beforehand if you have concerns about using a treadmill or need any adjustments.

  • Bring your usual walking or running shoes, plus any insoles or orthotics you use.
  • Wear comfortable clothing and bring shorts so markers can be positioned on your legs. If this is a concern, speak to us before your visit.
  • Bring details of previous treatment and any questions about your symptoms or training.
  • Confirm the assessment option, appointment length and fee with reception when booking.

A little more information

Your Run3D questions.

How does Run3D differ from a video assessment?

A conventional video gives a two-dimensional view. Run3D uses infrared cameras and reflective markers to calculate joint movement in three dimensions, including rotation. This gives your clinician detailed measurements to interpret alongside your clinical assessment.

Do I have to be a runner or have an injury?

No. Run3D can assess walking as well as running. It can be used to investigate symptoms or to explore movement in relation to your activity goals. Our team will help you choose an appropriate assessment.

Does every assessment include strength testing?

The patient guide describes both gait analysis and a combined gait and musculoskeletal assessment. Strength, flexibility and related clinical tests form part of the combined assessment. Reception will explain the options available at our clinic and confirm what your appointment includes.

Will I need insoles or orthotics?

Not automatically. Your recommendations follow your assessment and may involve exercises, footwear advice, gait retraining, orthotics or referral where appropriate.

How much does it cost, and how long does it take?

Please call 028 7137 4097. Our team will confirm the assessment options, appointment length and fee before you book.

How do I book a Run3D assessment?

Call 028 7137 4097 and ask about Run3D. Our team will discuss your needs and help arrange the right assessment. You can also use our online calendar for a podiatry appointment if you would like an initial discussion about a foot concern.
